STEP ONE: Embroidery
Embroider all 10 blocks, using
different fabric scraps.
All blocks are made in the hoop,
with water soluble stabilizer (WSS).
You could add small designs to the
blocks as well as a name spread across the top two blocks (the "cuff") to
personalize your stocking.
Remove as much of the WSS as
possible and arrange the blocks in the correct order on your work top. |
 |
|
STEP TWO: Join blocks
First zigzag together all the blocks in the same row.
Recommended stitch setting:
W = 3.5 L = 1.
|
 |
|
Then zigzag the rows together.
I don't like raw seams and joins so I
covered mine with rickrack. It looks very pretty and festive too!
(see further down)
Add any other embellishments like
ribbon, lace, beads etc. |

|
STEP THREE: Add the backing
You need a piece of felt or fabric
approx. 16 x 12 inches or 40 x 30 cm in size.
If using fabric, turn over a small
hem at the top edge for a neat finish.
You can either use the stocking
front as a template to cut a stocking back or ...
Simply pin the stocking front (wrong
side up) to the fabric as shown right. |
 |
|
With right sides facing each other,
stitch the stocking top to the backing fabric.
I stitched mine just to the left of
the satin border. |
 |
|
|
STEP FOUR: Finishing Touches
Trim away excess fabric and turn right
sides out.
Add more braid or trimmings if
desired.
It couldn't be easier!
Estimated time to complete a
stocking is about 3 hours.
Finished size is 15.2 x 10 inches
or 38 x 25 cm.
