How to make your Elephant Scissors Pouch for 4x4 hoops
Click HERE to purchase the design

The elephant scissors pouch is split for 4x4 hoops. The design is stitched in two sections and joined together in the hoop so that no further sewing is required.

Please read through the instructions carefully before you start.

Supplies:

  • Water-soluble stabilizer (WSS)
  • White felt for scissors pouch back, approx 4.5 x 3.5 inches (12 x 9 cm)
  • Brown or gray felt, approx 4.5 x 3.5 inches (12 x 9 cm) for the elephant's face
  • Scrap of fabric approx 6 x 3 inches (16 x 8 cm), folded in half with wrong sides together for scissors pouch
  • Cord for hanging pouch around your neck
  • Embroidery threads
STEP ONE: Embroider the Scissors Pouch.

Use design named Elliepart01.

Hoop your water-soluble stabilizer (WSS).

Color 1 embroiders the placement lines for the scissors pouch back

Place your piece of white felt over the placement area. Secure in place with embroidery adhesive spray to prevent any shifting.

Color 2 attaches the white felt to the hooped WSS Color 3 embroiders a row of loose stitches across the top half of the design. This is the placement line for your pouch fabric (the purple arrow points to the line). Place folded pouch fabric on top of hooped felt with the folded edge in line with the placement line.

Color 5 will also embroider placement lines at the top of the pouch. This is the shape of the bottom of the elephant's face and will be your guide for accurately joining the two pieces together. (the scissors points to the placement lines)

Remove the design from the hoop.

Trim away as much of the WSS as possible and set aside.

Color 4 attaches the pouch fabric to the hooped felt. Remove hoop from machine and trim away excess felt and fabric, as close to the stitching lines as possible. Color 5 embroiders the satin stitch edging around the pouch design, except at the top, which will be hidden away under the elephant's face in Step Two.
STEP TWO: Add the scissors pouch and embroider the elephant face

Use design named Elliepart02.

Hoop your water-soluble stabilizer (WSS)

Color 1 embroiders the placement lines for the elephant's face (the purple arrow in the photo shown right points to the placement lines)

Place the scissors pouch piece that you have already embroidered, on top of the hooped design, lining up the elephant's face alignment stitches. As you see in the photo I've trimmed away some of the white felt, leaving a narrow border to make sure the next color catches the scissors pouch.

You could also turn the hoop over and
check from the back to see if the
placement stitches are perfectly aligned.
Secure in place with glue or tape to prevent
shifting out of position.

Then place your brown or gray felt on top of the face placement area

Optional (after Color 6):
If you want to line the back of the
elephant's face, attach a piece of white
felt to the back of the hoop and repeat
color 2.

Color 2 attaches the brown or gray felt to the hoped stabilizer and also stitches the scissors pouch piece in place

Colors 3 to 6 embroider the elephant's facial details

Trim or soak away the WSS.

Punch through eyelet openings and attach a pretty cord for hanging the pouch around your neck.

Designed to hold a 4 inch long embroidery scissors.

Please note: The 5x7 inch design is exactly the same size and is embroidered in one hooping.

Now remove hoop from the machine and trim away excess felt. Color 7 embroiders the satin stitch edging to finish off the elephant's face. Color 8 embroiders the two eyelets.

Doreen C. sent in this photo of her lovely Scissors Pouches.

"I wanted to thank you for the animal coin purses.  They were such a joy to work up.
Also, thanks so much for the Elephant Scissor holder.  I ended up making 3 of them."
