Step 1: Make the Tabs
This project consists of
three design files which make the scrap bag. The first step is to
embroider your tabs.
Use water soluble Vilene and stitch according to the
instructions in your text file that comes with the designs.

Your completed tabs should
look like this.
Remove from the hoop and
trim away the stabilizer.
Wipe the edges with a clean damp cloth to remove
the
remaining Vilene.

Step 2: Make the scrap bag top and attach tabs |
Using water soluble stabilizer, embroider the scrap bag top up to and
including color 9.
Color 10 embroiders markers at the bottom (right hand side in the hoop)
edge of the scrap bag top, indicating where the tabs must be placed.
Position your tabs as shown in the photo and secure in place with sticky
tape. Color 11
attaches the tabs to the hooped design.

The next color will attach
your backing fabric so that all the stitching is neatly hidden away from
view. Place your piece of backing fabric behind the hoop and secure in
place with embroidery adhesive spray.
If you like, you could also add a narrow strip
of ribbon as indicated on the photo. This will be stitched into the border
and can be used for tying on your embroider scissors so that it doesn't go
missing! Embroider
color 12 to attach the backing and ribbon. |

Now trim away the excess
fabric, ribbon end and tab tops.
Embroider the last color
which finishes off the scrap bag top with a neat satin stitch edging.

Step 3: Make scrap bag bottom |
The final step - the scrap
bag bottom. Embroider your design as instructed in your text file up to
color 4. This color embroiders a placement line across the top part of
your scrap bag bottom. The scissors points to the placement line.
You are now ready to add
the front pouch. Cut and fold your pouch fabric as shown in the diagram
below. |

Position your folded pouch as shown in the photo, with the top folded edge
in line with the placement line. If you use pins to keep the pleats in
place, please make sure that they are positioned out of the needle's path.
Color 5 attaches the pouch. Now add the
backing fabric with color 6. Trim away all excess fabric and embroider the
last color to finish off your pouch with a neat satin stitch edge.

Slit through the buttonhole openings on your
tab and find your button positions. Stitch in place on the scrap bag
bottom. (I stitched the buttons on my scrap bag bottom placement line
approx 1 ¾ inches from either edge)
To prevent the scrap bag slipping off your desk, simply add a few blobs of
Prestick (Blu Tack) to the back of the scrap bag top piece. You
could also use double sided tape for more permanent fixing. |
